Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL)


A Commercial Pilot Licence qualifies a pilot to carry passengers or cargo for remuneration.

CPL course duration: Approximately 18 – 24 months. This may, however, vary for each individual student. We tailor the course to suit your lifestyle.

General Commercial Pilot Licence Requirements

You must:

  • be 18 years of age before you can obtain your Commercial Pilot Licence
  • hold a valid Private Pilot Licence (PPL)
  • have a night rating (only if you are obtaining an Aeroplane CPL)
  • complete a total of 200 hours of flight time
  • hold a Class 1 Medical Certificate
  • meet the English Language Proficiency standards
Commercial Pilot Licence Ground School Subjects:
  • Instruments and Electronics
  • Air Law 
  • Meteorology
  • Navigation
  • Flight Planning and Performance
  • Human Performance and Limitations
  • Aircraft Technical and General 
  • General Radio Telephony Certificate
  • Radio and Navigation Aid

Practical Training Requirements
  • Minimum 100 hours as pilot in command
  • Minimum 10 hours as pilot in command (night flying) – only if you are completing an aeroplane CPL
  • Minimum 20 hours cross country - only if you are completing a CPL without an Instrument Rating 
  • Pass a practical skills flight test with a Designated Flight Examiner
