This course is an international programme accredited by the Confederation of Tourism and Hospitality and registered in the United Kingdom on the Qualifications and Credit Framework. Hospitality and tourism is the world’s single biggest industry, covering everything from international airlines and global hotel chains right down to small family-run restaurants and private tour guiding. The career options are huge and varied. This preliminary foundation course is the first step towards an exciting career in the hospitality industry.

The Chartered Institute of Tourism and Hospitality (CTH) is one of the UK’s leading professional membership and awarding bodies for tourism and hospitality qualifications. Its mission is to develop and add value to careers in the tourism and hospitality industry all around the world. The CTH is endorsed by important industry figures and brands, including Tsogo Sun, Radisson Edwardian and Thistle hotels, the Dhaka Sheraton and many more.

 The Chartered Institute of Tourism and Hospitality (ITH) is the Southern African cousin of the Confederation of Tourism and Hospitality (CTH) in the United Kingdom, established in 1982. The ITH is the CTH’s representative in southern Africa. In this role, the ITH accredits training providers and supports them in rolling out the CTH’s UK-registered qualifications. The ITH also handles student and assessment registration on the behalf of the CTH.

Subject 2: Essentials of Marketing and Customer Relationships in Tourism and Hospitality •
  • Understand marketing theories in the tourism and hospitality industry. • Understand the principles of selling in the tourism and hospitality industry. • Understand the concept of customer care in the tourism and hospitality industry. • Understand customer relationships in the tourism and hospitality industry. 
Subject 3: Tourism and Hospitality Industry •
  • Understand the hospitality industry. • Understand the tourism industry. • Understand the role of tour-related functions. 
Subject 4: Essentials of Tourism and Hospitality Operations •
  • Understand front office operations within a hospitality or tourism business. • Understand housekeeping operations within a hospitality or tourism business. • Understand food and beverage operations within a hospitality or tourism business. • Understand destination analysis within the hospitality or tourism industry. • Understand travel agency and tour guiding operations.
