COURSE OBJECTIVES:

The job of a supervisor is quite complex.  The supervisor must learn to make good decisions, communicate well, assign work, delegate and plan, train people, motivate people, appraise performance, and deal with various specialists in other departments. In essence supervision is about planning, organising, leading and controlling. A variety of skills such as technical, human relations, administrative and decision-making skills are required to perform their task. This programme is specifically developed for line functionaries and managers at supervisory level.

COURSE OUTLINE:

Module 1
Deals with the basics or foundation necessary to embark on the practice of supervision.  Specific topics included in these chapters are managing diversity, decision-making skills, excellent communication and negotiation skills as well as an overview of the role that ethics, professionalism and organizational politics play in the daily world of the supervisor.

Chapter 1: Supervision;
Chapter 2: Decision Making Skills;
Chapter 3: Good Communication Skills
Chapter 4: Ethics, Professionalism & Organisational Politics

Module 2
Emphasizes the management functions the supervisor must perform which include: Planning; organizing; leading; control as well as coordination. Module 2 also deals with the importance of Efficient Time management and Delegation skills, that today’s supervisors must possess to be successful. It also deals with building and managing an effective team, understanding group dynamics and creating a cohesive team.

Chapter 1: Supervisory Management Functions
Chapter 2: Effective Time Management and Delegation Skills
Chapter 3: Effective Team Building
Chapter 4: Leadership, Motivating Your Staff, Handling Conflict & Stress

COURSE OUTCOMES:

After completing the course, learners will be able to:

  • Demonstrating knowledge of the principles and processes of team building in workplace activities.
  • Get agreement from team members on objectives, timeframes, rules and guidelines for participation.
  • Lead teams to complete workplace activities.
